Lancaster Lodging

Hey there,

Letting you know of a great trip planned. We have an Amish tour scheduled for March 28th that will be bringing our bed and breakfast guest throughout the Local Amish countryside. While Lancaster County may carry quite a few outlets, big name hotels and gimmicky shops, there are still places in Lancaster County that hold true to it's roots of quality and value.
Our Amish Tour will concentrate in our corner of Lancaster. Where the highest concentration of Amish live. While still a culinary tour, we will be digging deeper into the Country side in search of those unique one of a kind finds. Our lodging guest will enjoy first hand an amish bakery where they will explain the process of whoppie pie making, then off to a farm where they make their own canned food and other baked items.

This tour will also give you a chance to see a wood working shop and perhaps a coach making shop. (we are still working on it) Dinner will be included as well at an Amish homestead right here in Eastern Lancaster County.

Be sure to give us a shout to find out more about the tour and any of our lodging options at our Lancaster County Bed and Breakfast.

Shady Maple in Lancaster County

Good Evening Everyone,

Just thought I would post a quick blog on the mega attraction here in Lancaster County not 8 minutes from the Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast. A place called Shady Maple.

From the moment you walk in, you feel like you have hopped aboard a luxury liner. The only difference is that the casino and night life is no where to be found. But the food is plentiful.

You see, in our neck of the woods, we call what Shady Maple has to offer a Smorgasbord and what a smorgasbord they put on. Literally from soup to nuts. The run the gamut with just about something for everyone.

From Salads, to home baked breads, soups, roasts, vegetables, potatoes, and just about everything in between. The food is always good and the theme is heavily influenced by the Pennsylvania Dutch. Don't forget to end your visit with something from the dessert bar. What a treat.

The trip is always good for packing the cooler and bringing home some of their wholesomeness from the grocery store just next door. Although a maze of a grocery store, they have their own butchery, bakery, and seafood department. A really nice place to literally spend the day.

And of course when your day is done, come on down to... well you guessed it, the Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast. Shady Maple in Lancaster County is great for an overnight getaway!

Cooking Weekends

At the Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast in Lancaster County

Good Morning Everyone and of course Happy New Year!!!!!!

Here is wishing you all a wonderful New Year. Yes the Holidays are all but over and I sit here next to the Christmas Tree saying to myself I must take it down, but I am so damn reluctant to do so. It is the freshest tree we have ever had. (besides when it is down, then Christmas is really over) In any case, I guess it is time to make waves for the rest of the season; and with all the cooking Weekends we have going on this year, we are sure to have one geared just for you.

I would like to concentrate on our German Themed Cooking Demo with this posting. You see, next to Italian, my favorite is style of cooking is German. My in-laws own a Gasthof in a little Bavarian town called Mittenwald; what a great place. I was living there working with them for about a year. Sure enough I learned a little bit about the culture, ( well actually quite a bit) I was totally immersed into the experience and brought back quite a bit.

Our culinary experience in the art of German cooking will be quite a delicious show. Although the final menu is not set, we will be demonstrating many dishes from the Bavarian Culture. Don't think you want to miss this Demo. For you die hard foodies, you will get quite a wallop and then some. From Dumplings and Spatzle to Weiner Schnitzle, Spaghetti and meatballs? opps strike that and Saurbraten... the list will continue. And don't forget about the struedel. (Am I making your mouth water a bit? Did I mention the dancers in typical Bavarian Lederhosen and Dindle... I might have to keep Hans and his merry dancers at bay, can't seem to get them to agree on a song to slap there knees to.

Well, check out the Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast website to find out more. Being a Bed and Breakfast in Lancaster County, we are excited to do these cooking weekends. Please call if you have any questions.
